Bailey 2005
"The Second Annual Bailey
American Legion POW/MIA Memorial Post 2527 Chili
Cookoff raised over $1000.00 for local
charities, over doubling last year's efforts.
With 16 red entrants, two green and three wing
contestants, everyone at the cookoff enjoyed the
weather, beautiful scenery and location of the
event. Chuck Bruckman, local event organizer
remarked that the event program raised over $800
for the local charities that the Post is
involved with. The program sold ads and was
furnished to participants and locals after the
cookoff. There was also a successful Silent
Auction, that saw quite a bit of action towards
the end. Our own Lyman Wilkinson and Nate Chavez
were bidding against each other for the really
hot tool set donated by a local hardware store.
Other items auctioned were store and spa gift
certificates, dog vaccinations, restaurant
certificates, a home security system and
home-made crafts. There were a small contingency
that camped the night before the cookoff, and
although the temperature fell below freezing for
a short while, everyone enjoyed waking up in
their private mountain retreat next to a river.
After the cookoff, Richard Kelly from Parker
landed a nice trout in the stream only feet away
from where he was previously cooking. All in
all, the cookoff was a great success, and is
ripe for growing into an even bigger event in
future years. Thanks to everyone who
participated! Rocky Kimball"
